Why measure in the ear?The goal of thermometry is to measure core body temperature which is the temperature of the vital organs. The ear is an excellent site to measure temperature. Ear temperatures accurately reflect core body temperature, since the eardrum shares blood supply with the temperature control centre in the brain, the hypothalamus. Therefore changes in body temperature are accurately reflected sooner and more accurately in the ear than at other sites.
Braun Thermoscan measures the infrared heat generated by the eardrum and the surrounding tissues. It is more accurate than measuring rectal or temple temperature. The eardrum shares blood supply with the temperature control centre in the brain. Therefore temperature changes are reflected more accurately than at other sites.
Braun ThermoScan Ear Thermometer ExacTemp IRT 6030 features a pre-warmed tip that minimizes the cooling effect that could result from the introduction of a cool probe tip. The pre-warmed tip helps ensure accuracy measurement after measurement.
